This is the recommended specification for the Super-Krete Moisture Vapor Emissions Treatment System. S-10,000 is a guide for designers, specifiers and contractors for the assessment and treatment of concrete substrates prior to the application of Super-Krete products and systems. For the purpose of this specification, Moisture Vapor Emissions (MVE) treatment is the process required to produce sound, clean and porous cementitious substrates that will reduce the MVE levels to those adequate to accept Super-Krete products and systems. This specification includes the removal of bond inhibiting films, strength verification, creating surface porosity, increasing substrate strength, providing chemical encapsulation and providing a cementitious overlayment barrier. Also included are methods of field testing cementitious substrates to determine the rate of moisture and pH levels. Super-Krete ackowledges that MVE and excessive alkalinity within portland cement-based substrates is the leading cause of concrete disintegration, dusting and most coating delamination, and we highly recommend and require that all applicators of Super-Krete produts or any other coatings protect themselves from short and long term liabilities that may be incurred by not performing such tests prior to applying any type of coatings, paints or sealers.
